Travel Advice

Boy Scouts and Girl Guides worldwide have used the motto 'Be Prepared' for many years and that's a good motto for travellers too.

Preparation before taking holidays is very important for an enjoyable, comfortable holiday. I research the resort on the Internet beforehand and then I make a list of what I need to take and check the list off as I pack my bags.

What I take depends upon where I am going. If I am going to a hot country the most vital thing for me because my skin is fair is a high factor sun block and also a sun block for my lips.

For some reason mosquitos find my blood delicious with horrible uncomfortable results for myself. So if I am going to a country where there are mosquitos I arm myself with a good mosquito repellent, anti-histamines to help reduce the swelling of bites and sun blisters, an antiseptic cream like germolene and a soothing cream. E45 seems to work the best for me for both sun burn and mosquito bites.

Because I've had to have medical treatment for both sun burn and mosquito bites it's handy to know beforehand if the country that you are visiting has a reciprocal agreement with your own country for medical treatment. Obviously travel insurance is a must for cover against large medical bills, theft etc.
